Make more money on Craigslist with a clickable image ad
Craigslist receives over 1 billion hits per month and is most visited “Classified” website in the world. Before I started search engine marketing, I used craigslist as my only source of internet marketing. I still post to Craigslist everyday because I receive more targeted leads from my ads. It’s not as easy as you think to just post an ad on craigslist and get results right away. You have to be consistent and post everyday and follow the rules of craigslist.
Craigslist is bombarded with hundreds of ads each and every day, therefore you will need to stand out. I will show you how to create a clickable image ad that stands out from the rest of the ads.
- Determine what product or service you want to sell and create a banner image ad. In this example, I am using my Twitter – Viral Secret Affiliate image below. You can use one of your affiliate’s banner ads as an image. If you have your own product or service, you will have to create a banner image ad in MS Office Word and copy and paste the banner image ad to MS Paint and save the file as a jpeg file. If you need more help with this, please contact me.
- Create an account with Photobucket. Once your account is created, log in your account and upload your image. When your image is uploaded, roll over the image with your mouse and copy the html code like the example below. Paste the html code in MS Notepad and save it under a name and folder you will remember.
- You need to create an account with Craigslist. If you already have an account with craigslist, you can skip this step or just login.
- Choose your city you want to post your image ad. The city links are located on the right side of Craigslist website.
- Click “Post to Classifieds” link located in the upper left corner of Craigslist website.
- Click which type of posting you want to place your ad. I will choose “services offered” for this example.
- Choose a category you want to place your ad. For this example, I will click the “Small Biz Ads” link.
- On the screen as shown below is where you type in your “Posting Title” and “Specific Location”. My posting title is “Make up to $5k on Twitter”.
- Your code from your Photobucket account, with the exception of your username and image name should look something like this:

- You will replace the web address: “http://s820.photobucket.com/albums/zz129/dynastyweb/?action=view¤t=Twitter-Image-336×280.jpg” to the web address you want to send people to once they click on the ad. I am replacing it with “https://mgt.infusionsoft.com/go/tcm/mgt10894/” because this is my affiliate website where the consumer will go to. Now my code looks like this below:

- For each banner image ad to appear different to Craigslist, you will need to add on this code: <p style=”color:#E3E4FA”><font size=”-2″> and add on random characters at the end of the code to make each ad look different. Note: If you want to post your banner image ad to more categories, you will need to include this step.
- Now your code show resemble the code below, including the random characters(in blue text) at the end for each ad you post.

- Place your new code we just assembled into the “Posting Description” area
- Click on the “Continue” button. In the next screen, you should be able to click on your banner image ad and directed to the destinated website.
- The last step is to finalize your post by filling out the captcha phrase.

Great info! I wasn’t aware of image ads on craigslist. I have been hesitant to post ads on craigslist but after reading this I think I will go ahead and try it.

I’m a huge craigslist fan and have seen just how much money can be made from posting ads on CL.
It is unbelievable the amount of traffic CL can generate.
Another thing using images can do is allow you to post the same thing repeatedly by changing the unseen tags or image titles.
It’s also really handy for quickly reposting ads that get flagged down. Not that I encourage doing things against TOS on CL.
p.s. use proxy servers to flag down the competition
