Ok, people rely on Google search way too much. I know my answer to everything is “Google it” when someone asks me a question I don’t feel like answering it or I just don’t know the answer. But this takes the cake.
Thousands of people found this article “Facebook wants to be Your One True Login” when they googled “facebook login.” They assumed that this article must be a new version of facebook and went crazy on the comments.
There are over 1500 comments on this post and majority of the comments are saying “facebook please log me in.”
The site had to post this statement:
“Dear visitors from Google. This site is not Facebook. This is a website called ReadWriteWeb that reports on news about Facebook and other Internet services. You can however click here and become a Fan of ReadWriteWeb on Facebook, to receive our updates and learn more about the Internet. To access Facebook right now, click here. For future reference, type “facebook.com” into your browser address bar or enter “facebook” into Google and click on the first result. We recommend that you then save Facebook as a bookmark in your browser.”
When I first begin to read the comments, I thought this was a joke, but as I continue to read more comments, this was so surreal.
People were leaving comments like this:
It’s like a million of these comments.
Then you have the regulars (who knew this wasn’t facebook) make some funny comments:
I hope these are not the same people who get caught in phising schemes and enter in their Bank of America account number on fake Bank of America websites.
It is our duty to let everyone we know how to use the internet. This is truly embarrassing. If you want a good laugh, go over to site and read the pleas of logging in to play farmville. Like I said, it’s the funniest, but saddest thing I have ever witnessed. I am not sure what you can learn from this, but ReadWriteWeb.com received a tremendous amount of traffic from stupidity.
Whether starting a new online business or making changes to your current online business, you need to do a very essential job. Test out your entire site.
This includes:
Look over your entire website. Sign up for your own newsletter. Pull up your site in different web browsers. Proofread all the content and have a friend or editor do the same.
If not, this could prevent sales or potential customers from signing up on your website if it’s not properly working.
Get into the habit of testing everything before it goes live. It will always pay off.
