Stop Wasting Your Time with Facebook and Twitter

Many people think that social media will help them grow their businesses. They expect to make money by using Face book, Twitter, and LinkedIn as marketing tools.

Facebook’s 350 million users collectively spend more than 8 billion minutes on the site each day.

But the truth is that the vast majority of people is NOT making money with social media and is just wasting their time.

I have five action steps to commence making money on Face book, Twitter and LinkedIn and stop wasting time.

1.  Create a Business Model

  • Identify the exact product or service you want to sell through social media networks.
  • Who is your ideal customer? Define your target audience.
  • Develop a system to close sales on the phone, online, or face to face.

2.  Establish a Strategy for Using Social Media

  • Pinpoint your top three goals with social media (i.e., to generate leads, to find partners, to solidify current business relationships).
  • Recognize time frames for accomplishing these goals.

3.  Use the Right Social Media Network for Your Business

  • Become recognizable with all of the major social media networks.
  • Contact your customers or prospects and ask them which one of these social networks they go to most regularly.

4.  No Social Media Abuse

  • Be familiar with the rules of the particular site you are on. For example, Facebook can ban you for posting unauthorized commercial communications.
  • Find out the limitations of the site you are on. For instance, Twitter limits the number of direct messages you can send to 250 a day.

5.  Measure Your Results on Social Media Networks

  • Set very specific measurable goals. For example, you might want to get five new prospects a week and turn one of them into a new customer.
  • Start measuring your results — and keep refining your strategy until you get it right.

Follow these action steps to begin making money with your online business.

Deep Linking Tactics

I discuss a great deal in relation to several locations to apply backlinks, but today I would like to return to the fundamental steps of backlinks and how to use them.

Code for creating backlinks

Let’s take a look at the code you will need to use to create a backlink to your website.

<a href=”http://www.yourwebsite.com”>Anchor Text</a>

A backlink consist of three components:

1.    The html code at the beginning and end of your link: (<a href=”“”> </a>
2.    The link: (URL = your web address)
3.    The anchor text:  (your keyword(s) )

The anchor text is what the reader will see inside your comment.
It’s the part that will be in blue text, underlined and clickable.

Let me break it down into simple steps.

Let’s use my website address for example.

http://DynastyWebMarketing.com  and I have a webpage called “Internet Marketing Services”, which would make my webpage look like this:

http://dynastywebmarketing.com/internet-marketing-services

A backlink to my Internet Marketing Services page would look like this”

<a href=”http://dynastywebmarketing.com/internet-marketing-services”>Internet marketing</a>

Create a couple of backlinks to different pages or popular posts on your website.  Now save these backlink codes to a text file on your desktop and call it “Website Backlinks”.

Deep linking tactic

I want to point out that you should aim to different web pages or posts on your website instead of only your homepage of your website.

My daily SEO marketing includes commenting on 5 blogs per day related to my keywords.

You should comment on blogs related to your topics and then post your comments with your backlinks.

Then the search engine spiders follow your links
back to your web pages, they will then index each individual page
in the search engine listings.

When someone types in your anchor text (keyword) for example
“Internet Marketing” your site will show up in the search engine results.

The Death of Article Directories

For article marketing, we welcome the death of article directories and the rise of document sharing sites.  Document sharing sites allow you to upload your articles as PDFs, Word documents and/or slide presentations. The reasons why I use document sharing sites instead of article directory sites are:

  • Google rank my documents higher:  It appears that Google rank document sharing sites higher than article directories.  I would only get 10%-15% chance of any of my articles on Ezine sites to rank high on major search engines.  The same articles I submit to document sharing sites give me a 95% chance of ranking high on the search engine.
  • Fast indexing: My documents are indexed in Google within a few hours and often as fast as a few minutes.
  • No review process: Some sites like Ezine take days or weeks to review and approve my article.  I honestly forget sometimes that I submit certain articles to Ezine until they email me with an approval a week or so later. Please, don’t let there be an issue with your article violating any terms and conditions.  That is another week to straighten out. There is no waiting period with document sharing sites.  You just upload and you are ready to go live.
  • Links: Unlike most article directories, document sharing sites don’t limit links to the bottom of your article in the resource box. You can add links anywhere and there are no limit to how many links you can have in your article.
  • Images: With article directories, you are not allowed to add images to your articles, which make your article, look dead and boring.  You can add images to your articles with document sharing sites. Adding clickable images to your documents adds to the overall appearance of your articles and ultimately higher click-through rates.

My top 5 document sharing sites are:

  1. DocStoc – The cool thing about Docstoc is that it allows you to add your Adsense account to your Docstoc account and they split the profits with you 50/50.
  2. Slideshare – You can upload powerpoint presentations as well as PDF and Word documents on this site.
  3. EdocrYou get great exposure with Google and Bing. You can also get sales leads from your article, but this is an additional service and worth trying out.
  4. ScribdThis site is an incredible source of traffic, but you have to be careful and not spam this site and have links that go back to a sales page.  They will ban your account and documents will be removed
  5. CalameoThis site does better with Ms Word or Open Office documents than PDF.

Bonus Tips

  • Complete the entire profile of each document sharing site.
  • In the Tag Box – Include your keywords for tags.
  • In the Description Box – Be descriptive as possible about your article, or use the first paragraph in your article to draw people in to read it.
  • Include a small resource box at the end of each file you submit to bring viewers to your site.

The Best 5 Places to Position Links For Faster Google Indexing

Every so often, Google takes awhile to index our websites.  But yet, there are very highly page rank sites that Google just loves to death because they are indexed in as little as a couple of hours. I have a backlink building approach that I apply to each of the top 5 sites I place my backlinks.

Forums: For the purpose of creating backlinks, you don’t necessarily have to leave a comment; you can just copy your completed profile URL and start pinging and social bookmarking this URL. If you decide to leave a comment or join a discussion, please make the comment useful and don’t spam the forums because the forums are there to really help people learn more.  I search for forums by my keyword phrases.  This is a method that I use for searching for forums on Google:

  1. Go to Google Search
  2. Type your keyword phrase
  3. Click on “Show Option”
  4. Click on” Discussions”

show options on google The Best 5 Places to Position Links For Faster Google Indexing

click on discussions on google The Best 5 Places to Position Links For Faster Google Indexing

If you are using Firefox, make sure you download SearchStatus – a firefox extension. It allows you to view the page rank of each forum.  To be successful at getting rank higher, choose forums with page ranks 6 or better.  Placing your url on the highly page rank forum’s profile page will get you on the 1st or 2nd page of Google in no time.

Document Sharing Sites – This is a great way to create backlinks in lightning speed.  Google highly rank these sites and index them within hours if not minutes. You upload your blog posts or articles, which already contain links to document sharing sites like DocStoc and you are good to go.  I will explain more on my upcoming article “The Death of Article Directories.” Make sure you sign up for my RSS feed so you won’t miss it.

Shareware and Freeware sites: These sites are another advantageous way to create backlinks.  Google index these sites super fast.  You can hire a programmer to create your own small program for you.  The links on your program comes back to your website with your specified keywords. You can submit the program to over 1000 shareware sites using PadExpress or Promosoft – software submission programs.

Search for same niche blogs to comment.  First I want to say, please don’t spam someone blog, that is the most annoying thing in the world to a blogger.  Leave a useful comment if you use this method and provide a link at the bottom of your comment like a signature. The reason you should comment on the same niche blog is because your keywords are both similar and when someone searches Google and their blog post comes up, they are most likely to read the comments and Google will index and rank that page higher, therefore giving you more link juice if it Is a “dofollow” blog. If it is a “nofollow” blog then Google won’t index your link because the blog owner is letting Google know not to follow any links on the comment page.

Squidoo – This high page rank site is designed for people to create a web page called a lens to create useful information.  The great thing about Squidoo is that you can create a new lens everyday on an article or blog post you have and it allows you to make money on the lens, while creating backlinks.

Always remember to do 2 important things after you place your link

  • Ping where ever you place your link (use pingomatic)
  • Social bookmark where ever you place your link (Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious,  and Reddit)

Why is it important to ping your blog?

What is pinging your blog?

Most people like to read fresh new articles.  To ping your blog is to notify a number of services that keep track of weblogs and publish them. By pinging, you let the services know that your blog has been updated and hence, they crawl and index your site, publishing your blog contents.   You can get pretty good traffic coming to your site once this is done.

How do I ping?

There are many free pinging services to use, but I use pingoat.com as my service.  If for some reason pingoat.com site is not available, then I use pingomatic.com.  You can only use one pinging service since they all use the same services to ping your blog post.  You don’t want to double ping your blog post. You can be penalized for by numerous search engines by not accepting any blog posts from your blog in the future.

For Word Press Users:

Word Press already has a built-in pinging service.  It can be a dilemma using their built-in pinging service because Word Press pings your blog every time you update a post or create a draft.  What I suggest you do is sign into your admin panel.  Under your setting tabs, click on writing settings.  Under “Update Setting”, clear any links in the box.  This way your blog won’t ping the search engine every time you simple update your blog.  You don’t want to be penalized for just updating your blog or making a draft blog post. At this point,  you have control of pinging your blog.

How often do I ping?

Once you publish your new blog post, you can head over to any pinging service and ping your new article. Remember, only ping your blog post once.

What other sources can I ping?

You can ping not only your blog post links, but you can also ping other sources you created, for example;

  • Articles from Ezine Article and other article submission sites
  • Videos uploaded to You Tube and other video submission sites.
  • Hub Pages articles
  • Squidoo lens
  • Etc…..

Make pinging your blog and other sources a daily routine once it’s published.

A Smart and Easy Way to Get Free Traffic – Ad Swaps

This article is from Maki, a Philosophy student in Toronto, Canada.

One of the easiest ways to get visitors to your web site is to spend money. Nothing is more effortless then paying for traffic. But if you can’t afford it or don’t want to pay, there’s an equally simple but free way to get traffic: ad swaps.

An advertisement swap or ad swap is simply an arrangement where you agree to put up someone else’s ad on your site or email newsletter in exchange for them doing the same.

The goal of an ad swap is mainly to get exposure for a specific purpose, such as selling products/services or improving awareness of your brand/site. This is different from a link exchange because you are not seeking to improve your search engine rank.

The link value doesn’t matter at all. What matters is getting visitors into your web site.

Four Pre-Requisites for a Successful Ad Swap

For an ad swap to be successful and fair, there are four pre-requisites to be fulfilled:

  1. Equal traffic and exposure: Both parties ought to have websites that receive a steady amount of visitors everyday, or an email list with a decent amount of subscribers. Otherwise, there is no meaning in setting up an ad swap in the first place. Ad swaps are most agreeable when both parties have an equivalent audience reach/traffic count.
  2. Fair and Good Ad placement: Traffic flows more easily to you when your ad is displayed in a spot which is easily viewable and accessible by visitors. While site designs may differ, both parties should endeavor to exchange ads that are displayed in a similar fashion. A pop-under does not capture visitor attention in the same way as a site-wide banner, so seek to use equivalent ad formats too.
  3. High Relevancy: In the best scenario, an ad swap should occur between websites in the same niche, as both parties would benefit from a trade in visitors with an already established interest on the same topic. But it is possible for trades to occur for sites in different niches. The essential point to remember is that your ad/message MUST be relevant to the page or site where it is placed and vice versa for your ad partner.
  4. No Conflicting Purpose. If you’re a merchant selling a product or a firm offering a service, you should not do ad swaps with competitors (other merchants/firms in the same niche). However ad swaps can be done for joint promotion of a specific event or shared project. You also should not do an ad swap with a site that contradicts your brand’s ethos or image (e.g. PETA doing an ad swap with Kentucky Fried Chicken).

There is one more important factor and that’s networking. Webmasters and bloggers are often inundated with requests for link trades: they have a defensive barrier against requests from strangers. Unless your site has some reputation or authority in your niche, ad swaps usually need to be prefaced with an established relationship.

People are far more likely to do ad swaps after they become more comfortable with you, when they don’t see you as a leech but a potential benefit. So keep this in mind as well when you aim to fulfill the four other prerequisites.

Seek Quality Ad Partners, Don’t Settle For Anything Less

traffic exchange A Smart and Easy Way to Get Free Traffic Ad Swaps

You may be familiar with the traffic exchange networks of the past (and present), places where webmasters can go sign up, submit their site and browse through each other’s websites in order to earn viewing credits that can be converted into pageviews for their own site.

It’s all about trading incentivized glances in a merry-go-round of self-interest. You look at my site, I look at your site. Everyone is happy. And it goes on ad nauseam.

Even though these pageview-trading rings are called traffic exchanges, they aren’t useful because you don’t get truly targeted and interested viewers, people who click through to your site because they were honestly compelled by curiosity or desire, not because they want more hits to their own website.

I bring up the topic of the old-school traffic exchanges to emphasize the importance of having a quality ad swap. One should carefully select ad partners because you need to maximize your returns with a limited inventory: you only have that much ad space to trade.

Your goal is to get the best quality visitors from your ad. To achieve that, you must try to only trade with websites that have a quality audience. Don’t do ad swaps just because someone asked you to, it could end up being a waste of time and ad space.

You probably know how to find quality ad partners already, as you should be familiar with your niche. If not, find them by doing a Google search for your site’s keywords.

If you can’t set up a good ad exchange because your site doesn’t get enough traffic, try again after you’ve developed a greater audience. Or you can negotiate with more popular sites by reducing the display length for your ad against their ad, although even that may not work.

Types of Ad Swaps You Can Set Up

All ad swaps can be measured with tracking links and analytics so both parties can compare how many hits they received with the clicks they sent out. If you’re doing an ad swap with a friend or prefer a looser agreement, you can forgo click data and stats altogether. The choice is up to you. Here are some ad swap formats you can use.

  • On-site Banners and Text Links. This includes banners of all sizes and text links on a site-wide basis or on specific webpages. Includes blog post promos.
  • Email Newsletters. Involves inserting a mention of your ad partner’s website or product/offer. This can be accompanied by a personal endorsement or not.
  • RSS Feed Ads. These are either text links or image banners placed within an RSS feed.

Some Extra Tips and Recommendations

One guideline I follow is to never send traffic to my homepage or any page that is unoptimized. A custom landing page must be created for each ad swap. I can design it for the purpose of capturing leads (freebie + opt-in) or set it up so that it becomes a welcome page (’Hello, visitors from Site A!’) with a short introduction and deep links.

I also pay special attention to the ad banners used. Banners that reference your partner’s site name or brand tend to get better click throughs, although you should get permission first. Sometimes they do not want to appear as if they were endorsing your site, although they are already implicitly doing so by having your ad up.

Ad Swaps Aren’t Hip Now But They Still Work

While it’s a common email marketing practice amongst internet marketers, I don’t often read about ad swaps being recommended as a traffic strategy for bloggers or webmasters. There were a few ad trading networks around but none of them really caught on for some reason.

Perhaps it sounds archaic and boring compared to all the super cool social media viral marketing buzz building tactics being promoted right now by all the experts. Yes, ad swaps may sound dull but they still work if you know how to do them right. If you’ve got ad space you can’t sell, why not give it a shot? You have nothing to lose at all. ^_^
